Waterville – With great sadness, I announce the passing of my beloved mother, Yvonne C. Grivois, 92 of Waterville. She died peacefully Wednesday, May 31, 2017 after a brief illness at Maine General Medical Center in Augusta. She was born in Keegan, Maine on February 23, 1925, the daughter of Denis and Catherine (Michaud) Martin. She was the youngest of ten children. She attended schools in Van Buren.
Yvonne married Albert Grivois in 1945 and they were married for 54 years until his passing. They had three children: June, Judy and Brian.
She was employed by the Diamond Match Company for approximately 10 years, but her most important career was that of wife, mother, grandmother and great-grandmother. In her younger days she was an outstanding cook, baker, candy maker, quilt maker and seamstress. She made the best raspberry tarts and lemon meringue pies in the universe.
Yvonne loved going to the Early Bird and loved the wait staff there. She loved watching Dancing with the Stars and Patriots Football. Her favorite was “Gonk”. She enjoyed country music and especially Daniel O’Donnell.
She was predeceased by her parents, all of her brothers and sisters, her husband Albert in 1999, son Brian Grivois in 1983 and daughter Judy Grivois in 2016.
She is survived by her daughter June York and her husband Thomas of Waterville. She is also survived by four granddaughters: Tiffany LaLiberty and her husband James; Julie Carroll and her husband Jonathan; Amy Dennis and her companion Stephen Dyer, II; Sara Purser and her husband Nicholas. She was a special “GG” to five great-grandsons and one great-granddaughter: Samuel and Francis Carroll, James and Martin LaLiberty, Stephen Dyer, III and Celia Purser.
Yvonne is also survived by many nieces, nephews and friends. She survived by her good neighbors, Dick and Alice Harding, and by her “bestest” friend in the world Marge Harrington. She was deeply loved and will be forever missed by many.
I would like to thank Doctors Preston and Witkin for years of excellent medical care. I also want to thank Maine General Medical Center in Augusta for their phenomenal care of Mom during this past week. Special Thanks to Doctors Silver and Hermann at MGMC as well as all the great nurses, assistants and staff. Their caring, wonderful care was not only a gift to her, it was a gift to us. I will be forever grateful for the outstanding care she received there.
I also thank her handyman, David, for all his help.
