"MIMI, Junie, Ginny"
October 17, 1921 - February 17, 2010
Goshen, NY
Virginia June Flynn, formerly of Jackson Heights, who lived for the past two and a half years in Goshen at The Valley View Center for Nursing Care and Rehabilitation, passed away peacefully with her daughter, Rita and her CNA, Melanie by her side, after living many years as gracefully and courageously as one can with Alzheimer's disease.
The daughter of the late James Harvey and Margaret Wolford Dorman, she was born October 17, 1921 in Utica (Jeffersonville), IN on the banks of the Ohio River.
She is the last of 11 children and the only one to have lived to this wonderfully youthful age of 88.
Virginia is survived by her daughter, Rita Dumser and husband, Augie of Washingtonville; Sue Ann Flynn, her daughter-in-law and widow of Virginia's son, Thomas Flynn of Jackson Heights, Queens, NY. She is also survived by the joys of her life, her four loving grandchildren: Jennifer Flynn of Jackson Heights, Thomas Dumser of Jackson Heights, Matthew Dumser of Jackson Heights, and Laura Dumser of Washingtonville. She also leaves behind many loving nieces and nephews in New York and Indiana, especially her closest nieces, Lillian Crowe and Ethel Brutcher. Virginia also became very close to two women that took care of her the last few years she was home and she will be missed by them as well, BiBi and Julie.
In 2005, she was predeceased by her loving husband of 64 years, Charles Flynn. Virginia was also predeceased by her loving son, C. Thomas Flynn in 2004.
Virginia's family is extremely grateful to the people at Valley View Nursing Facility for the compassion and love they gave to our MIMI, their "Ginny". There on Grand Avenue, she was safe and well cared for and she loved all of them as much as they loved her. We will be forever grateful to all of those wonderful men and women who touched her life and helped her to maintain her dignity during the last two and half years of her life.
Visitation will be at David T. Ferguson Funeral Home, 20 North St., Washingtonville, today, Friday, February 19, from 2 to 6 p.m. Visitation will also take place on Sunday, February 21, from 2-5 and 7-9 p.m. at Conway Funeral Home, 82-19 Northern Blvd., Jackson Heights.
A Funeral Mass will be held at 9:45 a.m. on Monday, February 22, at Saint Joan of Arc Church, 8200 35th Ave., Jackson Heights. Interment will follow in Calvary Cemetery in Woodside, NY.
