Eugene Bauer passed peacefully into eternal rest on February 26, 2021 at Kaplan Family Hospice. A 45 year-resident of Washingtonville, he was born in New York City on January 25, 1926, the eldest son of Charles and Vivian Bauer. Eugene was a veteran of both the US Merchant Marine during World War 2 (where he was wounded in action) and the US Army during the Korean War; he then went on to serve just over 28 years in the New York City Police Department, finishing his professional working career as the Director of Security for Spear, Leeds, and Kellogg. He was an avid athlete and volunteer, playing semi-professional football in his youth and spending many years as a coach/manager/administrator with the Police Athletic League and later, Washingtonville Little League. He is survived by his wife of 46 years Jean, his younger brother Richard (Gloria), his sons Michael (Barbara), Jeffrey (JoAnn), and Christopher (Kristina), three grandsons, four granddaughters, and one great-granddaughter.
In recognition of the pandemic, memorial services will be held at a future time to be determined. And in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Police Athletic League of NYC (www.palnyc.org) and Project Liberty Ship (www.ssjohnwbrown.org).
