She is predeceased by her parents, Donald Steven Kimball and Marian E. Phillips, loving husband Robert J. Heinrichs in 2018, sister Lucille K. Pantelis in 2020, and stepson Wayne Heinrichs in 2021.
Ann attended Hamden High School in CT from 1950-’54, where she was active in the All-State Orchestra and Girls’ Rifle Club. She also played the violin in the Yale Orchestra and was a gifted seamstress, fondly recollecting knitting squares for Army blankets during WWII, and finishing a complicated Norwegian ski sweater pattern in her teens. Ann graduated from Brown University in Providence, RI in 1958, as one of only four women with a BA degree in Mathematics. It is there she met her best friend Doria, with whom she would play bridge, watch tennis, night ski, and bicycle all over Central Park in NYC. After graduating, she and a former classmate took an 8-month tour of Europe, which was one of her favorite topics of conversation.
Ann became a software engineer, working for American Airlines with her good friend Jeannette, then Sikorsky Aircraft, and finally, IBM. She married the love of her life, Bob Heinrichs in 1974, married 44 years.
In later years, Ann faithfully volunteered for her church, and sang in the choir. She loved visiting the NY botanical gardens and local museums, and creating homemade stained glass works. She also enjoyed gardening and pursued an avid interest in genealogy. She and Bob had a love for cats and parented many over the course of their marriage. She was a proud member of AA for over 40 years.
She is survived by her stepdaughter Angela Vitoulis and husband Steve of NY, grandchildren Alaina and Adam, great-grandchildren, niece and nephews, dear friends: Linda, Doria and Jeannette, and her caring church family. Ann will be remembered most for her fearlessness, sense of adventure, clever conversations, loving spirit and zest for spontaneous laughter and fun.
Private services will be held at a later date at the family’s request.
In Ann’s honor, donations can be mailed to: The Reformed Church, 2124 Albany Post Rd, Montrose, NY 10548.
