Sean F. McCarthy

Sean Francis McCarthy of Bethesda, Maryland, and life long Washingtonian passed from this earth on October 5, 2016 at the age of 83 after a brief illness. He graduated from Georgetown Prep and Georgetown University.

Sean McCarthy was the beloved husband of 46 years to Shirley Jane Schlosser McCarthy. He was the son of the late James T. and Mae McCarthy. Brother of the late Mor McCarthy, Maureen Boland, Sheila Ledet and Nancy Flynn.

Sean was a pilot with US Air for 31 years (1962-1993). Sean was a member of ALPA and executive chairman of the Washington Base. Since his retirement he has been a member of the Soaring Eagles. He was in the ARMY Para-troopers from 1954-56 stationed at Ft Campbell, KY and FT Jackson SC. He served his last years at FT Meyers.

Sean was devoted to his numerous nieces and nephews and grand nieces and nephews. He was blessed to have so many friends from Congressional Country Club - Golf, US Air Pilots and Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church.

The family will receive friends at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church, 9200 Kentsdale Drive, Potomac, Maryland on Thursday, October 13, 2016 from 4:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m. and on Friday, October 14, 2016 from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at Our Lady of Mercy Catholic Church on Friday, October 14, 2016 at 10:00 a.m.

Interment will follow at Gate of Heaven Cemetery in Silver Spring, Maryland.

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be given in Sean's memory to Catholic Charities of Washington, 924 G Street NW, Washington, DC 20001.
