Born in Washington, D.C. in 1941, Jim earned a BA degree from Georgetown University and, upon graduation, went into the U.S. Navy. He was commissioned an officer and, after graduating from the Naval Justice School, Newport, RI, he served with the Naval Security Group assigned to the National Security Agency. After leaving the Navy he was an administrative officer for the European, USSR and Worldwide English Divisions of the Voice of America. After a few years at VoA, he did labor-management relations work for the Office of the Secretary, U.S. Department of Health and Human Services. He retired after thirty years of federal service. Beside his professional work, he was an avid reader, artist, cartoonist, humorist and writer who loved classical music. He is survived by several cousins.
