Chiswell Dabney Langhorne Jr. died peacefully at home surrounded by his family on October 12th. Chill was born in Lynchburg, Virginia to Nora Petty Langhorne and Chiswell Dabney Langhorne on June 26, 1940. He graduated from Virginia Episcopal School, the University Of Virginia and the University of Virginia Law School. He attended post graduate programs at Harvard and Sloan School at MIT.
He was a trust officer at NS&T Bank for 15 years and maintained a law practice for years afterwards. He was a past president of the board of Kentucky River Properties and an active board member until his death. He was past president of the Foundation for the Preservation of Historic Georgetown, in part an easement program to preserve open space in the historic district, where he had lived for 45 years.
Chill was an avid skier and scuba diver for as long as his health allowed. He was a member of the Metropolitan Club, the University Club, the Chevy Chase Club, the Society of the Cincinnati, and the Washington Investors Club.
Chill was a devoted husband and father. He and his wife Barbara celebrated 50 yeas of marriage in May. He is survived by his wife and son, Chiswell III, son William and daughter-in-law Samar and two granddaughters, Nora and Laila.
A memorial service for Chill will be held at Christ Church Georgetown (31st and O St NW) on Thursday, November 15th at 11 o’clock am. The family asks that memorial gifts be directed to The Foundation for the Preservation of Historic Georgetown, PO Box 3603, Washington, DC, 20007.
