On Monday April 30, 2018 Barbara died at her residence in Chevy Chase Maryland. Barbara was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Charles D. Plummer and is survived by her three children. Nancy Hoffer (Robert J. Hoffer), Amy Plummer (Kenneth C. Hoffman) and Chas Plummer. A daughter Elsie D. Plummer died as an infant.
She has four beloved grandchildren, KC Hoffman, Emily Hoffman, Amelia Plummer and Parker Plummer. She was the sister of the late Hugh B. Carper and Elsie M. Carper.
Barbara had a sense of flair. She loved to celebrate and dress for any occasion. Christmas was her favorite. She was an avid fan of riverboat cruising and especially loved the many trips she took on the Delta Queen. New Orleans was her favorite destination. Barbara collected friends wherever she went and took pleasure in being the center of attention.
Along with her husband Charles, Barbara enjoyed years as a purveyor of Czechoslovakian pottery and glass. Barbara loved her many collections, including but not limited to, books, Coushatta baskets and other Southern Louisiana memorabilia. Barbara loved to attend the theater and dance performances.
She was proud of her American heritage and belonged to the Society of Mayflower Descendants, the Daughters of the American Revolution, the Society of Indiana Pioneers, and both the United Daughters of the Confederacy and the Daughters of Union Veterans of the Civil War.
Relatives and friends are invited to call at Joseph Gawler’s 5130 Wisconsin Ave, NW, Washington DC on Monday May 7 from 2pm to 4 pm and 6pm to 8pm. Services will be held at Joseph Gawler’s on Tuesday May 8 at 11 am with interment in Cedar Hill Cemetery, Suitland, MD. In lieu of flowers memorial donations may be made to St. Jude Children’s Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105 or Bayside History Museum, PO Box 348, North Beach, MD 20714.
