Arrangements unBeloved 33 year old daughter of Bruce and Marilou Sanford died March 8, 2017 at her home in Washington, DC of cardiac arrest following recent surgeries for infection. Ashley had lived with a series of complicated medical issues for more than 10 years, during many of which she enjoyed good health. Those who knew her found her resilience, courage, and spirit a source of inspiration.
A graduate of Beauvoir, the National Cathedral Elementary School, and the National Cathedral School for Girls (2001), Ashley attended Wesleyan University in Middletown, CT from 2001-2005. A talented musician and writer, she was working on a memoir at the time of her death, hoping to help other Type 1 diabetics and organ transplant recipients.
She is survived by her parents of Washington, Palm Beach, FL and Nantucket, MA; her sister, Lisa Sanford Davis and brother-in-law, Michael B. Davis of Denver, CO; her brother, Barrett W. Sanford of Washington, DC; a nephew, Quinton Davis and niece, Grace Davis.
A memorial service celebrating her life will be held at St. Albans Episcopal Church on the Cathedral Close at 2:30 p.m., Wednesday, March 15, 2017 with the Dean of the Cathedral Randolph Hollerith, The Provost of the Cathedral Jan Naylor Cope, and The Very Reverend Frank Wade officiating. A reception at the Chevy Chase Club will follow the service. A private interment at Oak Hill Cemetery in Georgetown will be held Thursday, March 16. The family suggests that gifts honoring Ashley's life may be made to the Juvenile Diabetes Research Foundation Greater Chesapeake & Potomac Chapter, the Sanford Music Fund of the Washington National Cathedral, or the Transplant Center at the University of Maryland School of Medicine in Baltimore, c/o Dr. Stephen T.
