Born in Providence, the son of the late Kurt and Hope (Hurdis) Wilhelm, he was a lifelong resident of the area.
A talented athlete, Paul played baseball, basketball and soccer while in high school at St. Andrew’s School in Barrington and was a graduate of the Class of 1969. Paul took a few college courses before deciding to enlist in the United States Army, serving active duty as a Medic during the Vietnam War. An avid Boston Red Sox fan, he always enjoyed playing a good game of catch.
Survivors include: five brothers, Mark Wilhelm of Woonsocket, Peter Wilhelm of Barrington, Kurt “Andy” Wilhelm and his wife Mary of Essex, Mass., Richard Wilhelm and his wife Diane of Long Island, NY and John Wilhelm and his companion Elizabeth Marks of Barrington; four nieces, Katherine, Kiera, Abigail and Colleen; three nephews, Eric, Isaac and Matthew and several cousins.
Relatives and friends are invited to a funeral service on Friday, August 18, 2023 at 10:30 AM at the Rhode Island Veteran’s Home, 480 Metacom Ave, Bristol. Reception to follow. Burial with Military Honors in Forest Chapel Cemetery, Barrington.
Memorial contributions in his honor may be made to the Rhode Island Veteran’s Home. Arrangements are in the care of Wilbur-Romano Funeral Home, Warren.
