Joseph “Joey” Souza, age 61, of Riverside, passed away on February 12, 2019 surrounded by his family at Rhode Island Hospital. Born in Newport, he was the son of the late Joseph and Rose (Raposa) Souza.
An ordained minister, he was a true and faithful servant of God and was a man of extraordinary faith. He was the very first one to teach his two sons about God and Jesus, the value of hard work, saving, budgeting, and self-reliance. He also taught them valuable life lessons such as, always taking responsibility and apologizing for your actions, he always said “This will help make you a better man”. He was a hard worker and also loved the United States of America. He was a traditional man that loved his family very much. He always spent as much time as he could with his two sons and his grandchildren and he was thankful for every second.
He is survived by: two sons, Hank Williams Souza of Tiverton and Joseph Robert Souza of Warren; three grandchildren, Aaron Souza of Assonet, MA, Lilly Rose Souza and Kaylee Martins both of Tiverton; one sister, Fran Willson of Middletown; one brother, Paul Souza of Riverside and one niece, Caroline Morin also of Riverside. Joseph also had a grand cat, Smokey, that he adored and Smokey loved him too.
Joseph is now in heaven watching over and praying for his family that he loved so much.
His funeral and burial are private.
