It is with deep sorrow that we announce the passing of William Henry Lasota, who left us on September 24, 2024, surrounded by his loving family. He was born in Toronto, Ontario, Canada, on July 11, 1934 to Stanley and Mary (nee Giza) Lasota. Bill's life was a testament to love, family, and a passion for the simple joys.
In 1953, William met his forever love, Sandra “Sandy” Verner, at a drive-in movie theatre. They married three years later in 1956 and spent seven wonderful years in Hamtramck moving to settle down. In 1963, they moved to Warren, so they could raise their four cherished children: William Jr., Leonard, Linda, and Mark. They have continued to share this family home for sixty-one years. Sandy and Bill celebrated sixty-eight years together filled with everlasting love earlier this year.
A man of many talents, Bill was an avid sports lover, particularly devoted to the Detroit Lions and the University of Michigan football team. He was athletic in his youth, even receiving a football scholarship, although an injury prevented him from pursuing it. His love for competition extended to cards and bowling, where he shared many joyful moments with friends and family.
Known as a jack of all trades, Bill had a remarkable ability to fix anything and loved tackling any problem that came his way. He found happiness in hosting friends and family, creating an atmosphere of warmth and camaraderie.
Bill was a simple man who cherished the little things in life. He will be deeply missed by all who knew him, leaving behind a legacy of love, laughter, and unwavering support.
Bill is survived by his wife of sixty-eight years, Sandy Lasota; his children William Lasota Jr., Leonard Lasota, Linda (Craig) Coburn, and Mark Lasota; his grandchildren Amy Lasota, Melissa Lasota, William Lasota III, and McKenzie Coburn; his great-grandchildren Abigail, Logan, and Nora; his great-great grandchildren Ellie and Bennett; his siblings Stanley (Pat) Lasota, Jennie Valentino, and Delphine Lasota; and several nieces and nephews.
