Teri was a doting loving mother to Michael (Jennifer Lutostanski), Lisa (Tony Petty), and Kenneth (Deborah). Loving grandmother to Sheldon (Hailey), Carter, Vaughn, McKinley, Elise, and Adalynn. Best great-grandmother to Bentley. Sister of George and Greg Czertko. Faithful life partner of Thomas Goddard.
Teri was fiercely independent, hardworking, extremely generous and thoughtful. Highly intelligent, she was invited to attend, and was a proud graduate of Cass Technical High School in Detroit, Michigan. While raising a young family she pursued her academic goals. Teri was awarded a full ride merit scholarship to Wayne State University where she earned a Master’s Degree in Social Work. Teri would proudly display her academic achievements, amongst other credentials, with her prized framed black and white photo of Bruce Willis that was personally autographed for her. She was a retiree from Macomb County having served 21 ½ years at Community Mental Health.
Teri was a force to be reckoned with. She had that unique spark in her eye, an infectious laugh, and at times, a very sharp tongue. She had the innate ability to adapt and overcome. Within her personal struggles she always managed to persevere. Teri was a breast cancer survivor. Recently, she faced the biggest challenge of all, fighting stage three small cell lung cancer. Teri was so much more than just the best daughter, sister, mother, (great) grandmother, companion, or friend that anyone could possibly ask for. Teri was also a healer, a protector, an advocate who would stand by you come what may, and a trusted advisor. She had such a strong moral compass that built the framework, and was the center, of our family.
Teri was a pillar of strength in times of trouble and struggle. If you were hungry, she fed you. If you were cold, she kept you warm. If you suffered with fear, she was the shelter in the storm. If you were hurt, she would mend and bind your wounds. And if your life was going to pieces, Teri would simply wrap her arms around you and heal your soul with her sage wisdom to assure you that this dark time will surely pass and that everything would be alright.
Teri had a desire for the finer things in life. She took care of herself and had an impeccable sense of flair for fashion. Classy and stylish, she enjoyed the fruits of her labor and was always a generous gift giver. Her love of music included Barry White, Tina Turner, Simply Red, and Jazz.
Teri was also a fierce competitor when it came to playing Backgammon. She would beckon, if not cajole, you to play endless rounds with her over a drink while discussing what was happening in your world. This also provided a fertile opportunity for her to playfully criticize your lack of skill to throw you off of your game.
But there was one element that was her highest priority. Teri was extremely dedicated to her family. She nurtured and adored her grandchildren. Teri loved “BIG” and you knew it.
Even though you left your mortal coil and are no longer in pain, I humbly beseech you to visit your loved ones in their thoughts and dreams to assuage our collective burden of profound grief as we maneuver through our remaining days. As you have previously done so, please bind our wounds of sorrow. Heal our souls with your presence and sage wisdom that this dark moment shall also pass.
With the eternal promise of Spring and rebirth on the horizon, please continue to be a force of good and surround us with your light as we send our love to you. Teri, you were a blessing and a miracle. You served as a golden example of a person we all hoped we would be. Please be at peace, be safe, and may you be protected.
Love you Mom.
A visitation for Theresia will be held Thursday, February 24, 2022 from 3:00 PM to 9:00 PM, followed by a scripture service from 7:00 PM to 7:30 PM.
