Ruth Lorraine Gietzen

Ruth Lorraine Gietzen, age 83, formerly of Warren, died Monday, March 2, 2015 at St. Mary's Mercy Hospital in Livonia, Michigan. She was born January 7, 1932 in Detroit, daughter of the late John and the late Ruth (nee; Helwig) Morovitz.Growing up in Detroit, that is where Ruthie attained her education which ultimately led to her graduating from Denby High School's Class of 1949. For the next 14 years, she turned her sights to the work world and landed a position with the iconic J.L. Hudson Company where she worked in their Merchandising Department. Though she always aspired to be a nurse, she poured much of her caring spirit into tending to the needs of shopping masses.It was in May of 1963 that Ruthie's employment at Hudson's would be replaced by the dream of becoming a wife,...and" target="_blank" rel="nofollow">...and soon, a mother, when she took the vows that binded her together with Francis Gietzen as the two became husband & wife. They would go on to spend the next 51 years building a home, raising a family, and growing deeper in love with each passing day.Lovingly regarded as a longtime & active member of Peace Lutheran Church in Warren since 1968, Ruthie was a faithful attendee and an avid volunteer in many of the church's programs and projects. With her supportive nature and affectionate personality, her help was always revered and appreciated. Most recently and for many years now, she volunteered with the "Shut-In Visitation Ministry" taking God's Word and love to the many folks who weren't able to leave their home. And though Ruthie was a humble and selfless person, she was most honored to be one of the first recipients of the "Lutheran Woman of the Year" award, an acknowledgement by the Lutheran Women's Missionary League.When Ruthie wasn't tending to the needs of others, she loved playing the piano,...especially the classical pieces and the old standards. She was quite the pianist and had a passion for tickling those ivories. More notably, she was the former pianist for "People Making A Difference," a volunteer entertainment group that visited senior living residences and brought a little joy into the lives of many throughout the years.A loving wife and mother, Ruthie possessed a compassion heart and a generous spirit that guided everything that embodied her role as Homemaker and Mom. She was always thoughtful, always affectionate, and always ready to help in any way possible. She set the standard of what caring for others she be about, and lived out her faith as a true servant of her Lord. Aside from her husband and children, there were also the other "loves in her life,"...Grant, the poodle,...and Tele, her deceased yellow Lab. She was truly a doting Doggy Grandma. She also leaves 49 nieces and nephews, and many loving friends, to cherish her memory. She will be missed immensely and loved eternally.Ruth was the beloved wife of Francis "Frank" Gietzen. Loving mother of Diane (Sam) Jett, Dawn (Warren) Hardy, and Daniel. Dear sister of John (Joanne) Morovitz and Carolyn Zielinski. Visitation for Ruth will be held Thursday, March 5th from 3-9pm at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 ½ Mile Rd) in Warren.
