Russell G. Head, age 66 of Center Line, died Tuesday, November 12, 2019 at Autumn Woods Health Care Facility in Warren, Michigan. He was born October 19, 1953 in Detroit, son of the late Harold and the late Mildred (nee: Russell) Head.
Russell was employed within the field of manufacturing where his skills and expertise were realized as a Product Analyst. He was a dedicated worker who poured the knowledge and experience he gathered over the years into each decision and oversight of the products within his purview.
Russell worked hard to earn his times of pleasure in life, with most of those being enjoyed in the outdoors. He loved exchanging the concrete jungle for a bit of backwoods beauty and the peaceful serenity that always accompanied those settings. For something outdoorsy more close to home, Russ’ own backyard afforded him one of his greatest pleasures,…tinkering around in the garden. Russ was quite proud of his experiment in “city farming,”…and he was a natural. Possessing a green thumb and the tender-loving-care required to nurture its growth, Russ’ garden was a thing of beauty. As for those from more of the sporting aspect, the outdoors provided Russ the joys of both hunting and fishing as well. Whether he was casting his line at a favorite fishing hole in search of the “Big One,”…or looking to catch a hearty buck in his sights during deer season, the manifest beauty of Michigan’s outdoor experience were the perfect getaway for Russ, and a wonderful opportunity of bringing a bit of balance to life.
Another of Russell’s favorite things to do “outside of the house” was enjoying a great meal. Nothing makes the dining experience more pleasurable than having somebody else do the cooking and cleaning, and nobody knew this better than Russ. And it was made even more special when sharing the joy with others. Russ was also known for being quite the car enthusiast. And not merely one who appreciated cars, but one who also wrenched on them from time to time, as well. He loved the purr of a well-maintained machine, and was truly a Mr. Goodwrench in his own right. And like many guys with spare time on their hands, feeding his hunger for sports was often high on the list of favorite pastimes.
Along with all of that, Russ was also a man of faith and a parishioner at St. Clement Catholic Church in Center Line. He was a member of the St. Clement Dad’s Club, and was also one of the friendly faces who served as an usher for the church, too. Though he may not have projected his faith from the pulpit or a podium, Russ’ faith ran deep and was witnessed through his acts of kindness to those less fortunate among us. Russ had a unique and special ministry that worked itself out on a weekly basis when he would stop by a local restaurant, pick up a slew of Coney Dogs, then would head to Detroit to share them with the homeless. There was nothing for him to gain, just simply to answer the call upon his heart to feed the hungry. As seen in the Bible in Matthew 25:40,…Jesus says, “Truly I tell you, so as you have done it unto the least of these, you have done it unto me.” And yes, I believe Jesus would truly enjoy a good Coney Dog, or two.
Speaking of dogs, there was none more precious to Russ than his handsome and adoring Shih-tzu / Bichon mix, “Murphy” who comforted him on countless occasions and brought a great deal of joy into his home,…and heart. Sometimes our “furry friends” are the best friends of all, and Russ made for the perfect “Furr Daddy” to his four-legged companion.
Yet of all the joys and pleasures that enveloped Russell’s life, his family and friends are who captured his heart the most. A loving husband, father and friend, he leaves behind a storehouse of special moments shared together, memories to last a lifetime. He touched a multitude of hearts and souls throughout his journey this side of Heaven, may he now enjoy the rewards that await him on the other side. May he rest in peace.
Russell was the beloved husband of the late Rosemary. Dear father of Russell Head Jr., Angela (Jacob) Sape, Milene (Jason) Farkas, and Douglas Head.
Visitation for Russell will be held Thursday, November 14th from 3-9 pm, with a 6 pm Rosary Service, at the D.S. Temrowski & Sons Funeral Home, 30009 Hoover Road at Common (12 1/2 Mile Road) in Warren.
Mr. Head will lie in state on Friday from 9:30 am until time of the Funeral Mass at 10:00 am at St. Mary, Our Lady Queen of Families Catholic Church - St Clement Site in Center Line.
