Born in Hamtramck to the late Michael and Helena Panutich, Joann had an effervescent personality and a tremendous joy for life. Joann was voted most athletic her senior year of high school because she was a member of numerous teams from basketball to field hockey, cheerleading, bowling and more. Even as she got older, her competitive athletic nature continued as she enjoyed multiple women’s and mixed bowling teams for many years. Joann was known to have the highest bowling average in her league if not every year than almost each year. Also, a talented singer, Joann sang in a girl’s trio that traveled and performed around the state. She knew all the popular dances and could dance and sing for hours. During family parties she enjoyed playing the accordion and piano with her nephews. When she wasn’t playing sports or singing, she could be found laying out on the beach in her favorite bikini. When Joann married her husband, Joseph, she said she had married her knight in shining armor. She loved him and the family they created together her entire life. Once married Joann and Joe moved to New York to live with his parents. If there was anything her kids ever wanted that she thought would make them happy, she gave it to them. Her son fondly remembers how close Joseph’s uncle Dan stayed with their family. Joann jokingly called Dan her 5th son. After Joann’s in-laws passed away in New York, her and the family moved back to her home state of Michigan along with uncle Dan. Later in life once the children had grown, for many years Joann and Joe would go with them and their grandchildren to St. Augustine, Florida on vacation. Joann held the same love for animals as she did for her family. Known to routinely give to the Michigan Humane Society or help any animal in need, Joann had many dogs and various pets over the years. Her last dog, Vanna, was one of her beloved poodles. In the years after her husband retired, Joseph and Joann went to Vegas every month and they became proud grandparents. The kids laughed about how often they would go to the airport to pick up their parents and hear about their winnings and adventures. A long-time member of St. Thecla Catholic Church in Clinton Twp., Joann was a member of the Over 50 Social Club and the Ladies of Isabel. Joann greatly enjoyed spending time with the friends she made at the church through the years and all the good times they shared both in faith and friendship. A deeply beloved wife, mother, grandma, great grandma, sister, aunt, and friend to all. Joann will be missed by all who survive her.
