Charles Lee Parks, age 86 and lifetime resident of Warren, Michigan, died Monday, March 28, 2016 at the Autumn Woods Health Care Facility in Warren, Michigan. Charles was born March 31, 1929 in Detroit, son of the late Charles Parks and the late Hetty (nee: Cosner) Parks.Following his schooling, Charles worked for the Chrysler Motors Corporation at their Dodge Main Plant as a sander before being called to serve his country during the Korean War. Charles served in the United States Army for almost two years having attained the rank of Sergeant. His military service began at Fort Custer in Battle Creek, Michigan where he attended boot camp, and later in South Carolina and Alaska before shipping out.Following his faithful and honorable service, Charles returned home and gained employment with the Warren Police Department as a patrol officer. Over the years, he ascended the ranks within the force and ultimately retired after more than thirty years as a Police Lieutenant. When Charles was not working, he enjoyed gathering up the family and hitting the road with the travel camper as they visited many states and campsites throughout America. Later in his retirement years, Charles found great pleasure in traveling with his wife to Florida,...and especially the summers spent in South Haven, Michigan where they were often joined by many of their family members. It was truly a special place where Charles held precious memories of the many walks on the beach with his grandchildren, and the many Petoskey stones they collected. Quiet times for Charles were enjoyed taking long walks, soaking up a good book, or crafting furniture with his woodworking skills. For many it may sound like work, but for Charles it offered a wonderful source of rejuvenation. He was also the kind of guy who never met a stranger and was always eager to strike up a conversation with anyone he met.
