Betty Jane Hummel, age 65 of Center Line, died Sunday, November 27, 2016 at home with her loving family by her side. She was born February 25, 1951 in Detroit, daughter of Albert and Betty (nee: Crane) Slavko.Though her battle with cancer finally came to an end, it wasn't without a mighty fight and a will to live unlike any other. For over 21 years, Betty gave it her all in trying to slay that dragon with a strength of character that baffled most everyone that knew her. It wasn't a battle she chose, but she became the consummate soldier amidst the challenges. Some often commented on how Betty became quite the professional fighter. Perhaps it was her feisty nature, or maybe her "smart ass" aura that showed itself from time to time that girded Betty up for the battle,…whatever it was, she was certainly an inspiration by how she got through it all.Along with being a fighter, Betty was also known for her strong and abiding faith. Without a doubt, her faith in God and His promises were often the rainbow amidst the storm,…and you'd often hear Betty share what became her favorite word; "blessed." When the tide would be high and the waves came crashing, she'd acclaim, "I'm blessed." When questioned about her condition, the term "I'm too blessed to be stressed" would often be her answer. No matter how you look at it, she was quite a magnificent lady who influenced countless lives as she navigated some pretty tough waters throughout her life. Many will remember Betty as being a free spirit, never tied down by the confines of this world. With her kind and compassionate nature, it's no surprise that she was truly a lover of animals. And when it came time for expressing the more creative side of her being, Betty often found sweet release and enjoyment in painting rocks. A loving mother and grandmother, Betty lived for each and every moment she could share with family and friends. Though she possessed an immeasurable amount of inner strength, there is no mistaking the importance she placed on the loved ones in her life. And not only through her cancer battle, Betty also touched numerous lives by simply being the caring and motivating force she was to all. She leaves both a myriad of life lessons in her wake, but also a legacy of love for all to embrace who were "blessed" to know her. She will be missed immensely and loved eternally.Betty was the beloved mother of Jamie Hummel, Karen (Doug) Campbell, and Brittney Hummel, and the loving grandmother of Kali Hummel. She was also the dear sister of Pat (Barry) Gaffke, Larry (Pam) Slavko, and Bob (Ann) Slavko.Visitation for Betty will be held on Thursday, December 1st from 3-9pm at the D.S.
