Theodore Louis Jones

Theodore Louis Jones (Buddy) was born to Louis Harrison Jones and Josephine Blacknell on May 18, 1934 in Creedmoor, North Carolina. He was raised in Washington, DC at 620 3rd½Street N.E. and attended DC Public Schools. At 16 years of age, he secured his first job in building maintenance. As young man, he was blessed with children from a relationship and a matrimonial union that resulted in the births of James Louis Williams, Deborah Williams (deceased) and Theodore (Teddy) Jones, Jr (deceased).

He joined the Holy Commandment Church of God Seventh Day under the auspices of Bishop Thomas Conway where, he heard the preaching and teaching of the Gospel of Jesus Christ, believed and received the gift of the Holy Ghost. There he met and married Oveta Blunt and together that union birthed three children; Joy Dobbs (Jeremiah), Tracie Jones, and Daryl Jones (Pascha) and raised his bonus children; Marvenda Scott (Kenneth) and Kahletta Montgomery (Frank). Later in life, he made his career as a chauffeur for the President of the National Geographic Society; where he maintained security and messenger assignments. Bishop Jones was a deeply spiritual man who shared God’s love with others. He was an inspiration to all who knew him; and was loved and admired by many. The impact of his life will be felt for years to come.

Bishop Jones was elevated to Assistant Pastor under Bishop Conway in 1970. In later years he was sent out with his Pastor’s blessings and began fellowshipping with Elder Williams. Bishop Jones was an example of a man driven by his purpose and faith in God, he would always challenge those around him to be the best version of themselves. Though he had a tough exterior, his heart was made of gold. He would never hesitate to give his last to anyone who was in need.

The passionate fire he had for God, led him to birth his own ministry in Baltimore, Maryland in 1985 which later resulted in purchasing his own place of worship in Capitol Heights, Maryland. He was elevated as a Bishop by the Apostle Robert E. Farrow of Whitesboro, New Jersey. Bishop Jones mentored many in the gospel and loved to encourage those who were seeking the Holy Ghost. He loved to play the washboard to assist the musicians; and was known to stop the music with “my music ain't right and would begin to clap the tempo.”

He would honor all ministers of the gospel that would stop to visit, allow them to speak, and would send them home with a love offering. He would always tell the young people to just close your eyes and praise the Lord. He started a transportation ministry and would pick up any soul that wanted to go to church.

Bishop Jones had a passion for young people and made sure they were involved in the church. He didn’t just preach the word, but he also taught the word by conducting interactive Bible Study.

In his later years Bishop Jones met and married Sister Queen Esther Dobbs, his devoted wife and they were married nearly 21 years until his heavenly transition. He was preceded in death by his sisters Betty Lou and Sadie Lee; and brothers Johnnie A., James E., David Lee (Rev.) and Leroy D. Bishop Jones leaves his only surviving sibling sister Bernice Virginia Byrd (Gene) and his wife Queen Esther.

To carry on his legacy are his children James Louis, Joy Janelle, Tracie Laverne, Daryl Lamont, Marvenda, LaTris, and Kahletta Michelle, and a host of grandchildren, great-grandchildren, great-great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and sons in the gospel.

Bishop Theodore (”Fireball”) Jones will forever be affectionately remembered by those who really loved him and understood his heart. A man of power and anointing; a man of compassion who truly cared for the people of God. He was a man of faith and A Man of God.

A visitation for Theodore will be held Monday, September 11, 2023 from 10:00 AM to 11:00 AM at Shiloh Church of God Seventh, 5701 Eastern Ave, Hyattsville, Maryland. A funeral service will occur Monday, September 11, 2023 at 11:00 AM. A burial will occur Monday, September 11, 2023 at Harmony Cemetery, 7101 Sheriff Road, Hyattsville,, Maryland.
