Susie was the beloved wife of Randall Lee Rye for nearly 24 years and loving mother to her daughter, Chantal Rye Faircloth, and son-in-law, James Faircloth III. She found great happiness in being a devoted grandmother (Mimi) to her three grandchildren, Johanna, Josie, and Jackson Faircloth. She is survived by her brother, Adam Hogge, sister-in-law, Chantal Emerson and six nephews, Christian, Tyler, Brandon, Eric, Cameron and Lars Hogge, her brother-in-law Kenneth Rye, sister-in-law Linda Rye and cousin, Kelli Nix.
Susie grew up in Fairfax, Virginia where she found her passion for competitive swimming and diving which she later passed down and shared with her daughter. She was a graduate of James W. Robinson High School Class of 1981 and later obtained her associate’s degree in computer science which led her to a career at Arnold and Porter as an IT Trainer. After moving to Southern Maryland, Susie decided to shift careers into the health field as a Phlebotomist where she took great pride in helping others. Her passion for helping others branched out to animals as well. She never met a stray dog or cat that she didn’t take home with her to “nurse back to health” but eventually ended up being a permanent part of the family.
Susie’s love for adventure was demonstrated through family camping trips (she was a self-proclaimed ‘expert’ packer) and countless Kings Dominion rollercoasters. She enjoyed shooting pool, bowling, singing karaoke with her go-to song ‘Harper Valley P.T.A.’, and attending concerts. Her love for all genres of music will be kept alive through family karaoke and jam sessions.
Her hobbies included crocheting blankets and signature baby outfits for her grandchildren to have as keepsakes. During Covid-19, she worked tirelessly sewing custom masks for family, friends, co-workers and even strangers.
Susie will be remembered for being an animal lover and having a competitive, creative, caring and thoughtful personality. Her free-spirited and lively nature was one to be admired and will continue to live on in those who were lucky enough to know her.
