Pamela Fayette Sheppard

Pamela Fayette Sheppard left worldly cares behind on a Sunday night, October 29, 2023. She was known as Pat to those who knew her best. Pat was a strong woman who managed more than her fair share of illness and conditions over the past seven years. Therefore, when she was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) in early October, she once again said 'I will fight it'! But this was not her battle because God had a better plan written for her. She recognized that fact, said, 'I'm ready,' and transitioned peacefully with family by her side. This world lost a vibrant soul known for her wit, intelligence, and unwavering loyalty.

Born on May 17, 1954, in Washington, DC, Pat was the baby girl of Martha Elizabeth Quarles and James C. Hawkins. She began her Federal Service career with seven years at the United States Postal Service before discovering her true calling at the Federal Election Commission (FEC). During her 32-year tenure at the FEC, Pat served as a Reports Analyst and later retired as a senior Auditor; her duties involved safeguarding the integrity of the federal campaign finance process, influencing policy, and serving as a mentor to countless junior staff.

Pat’s family included her children Rachel Blanco and Nicholas Cooper, who were her pride and joy. She was a charitable woman who gave generously and dedicated her time to people and causes she held dear, including voting equality, tax preparation, and supporting Lupus and Cancer patients and their families. Pat was a poet and an artist known to draw and paint murals in her home. As a retiree, she enjoyed exploring the world, diving into the pages of books, hosting and attending memorable gatherings, and part-time work as a contractor for Evans & Katz LLC.

Pat’s father, mother, brother James Wilson Adams, and sister Angela Burt predeceased her. Left to carry on are her brother, Muta Malik; sisters, Lucille Phillips, Patricia Govans, Vivian Tydings, Renee Thomas, and Katrina Phillips; her son-in-law, Jose Blanco; brother-in-law James (Jim) Tydings; many nieces and nephews; and the Blanco family. She also had countless mutually devoted neighbors; co-workers; members of her card, football, and book clubs; and her beloved friends who enriched her life along the way.

In lieu of flowers, Pat's memory would be honored by donations to the American Cancer Society. A celebration of her life will take place in the coming weeks, and further details will be shared.

Pat’s zest for life, faith through trials, and kindness will live on in the hearts of all who had the privilege of knowing her. Her exemplary strength and joyful spirit will continue to inspire us all. She was a mother, sister, and a dear friend who will be profoundly missed!

Rachel and Nicholas will receive those that knew and loved Pat on Saturday, December 9th between Noon and 2:30pm in MD to celebrate her life. Thank you all for your support during this difficult time.
