Michael is preceded in death by his brother Russell, father Norbert and mother Loretta.
He is survived and lovingly remembered by his children: Marc, Kimberly and Kerri; sisters: Laurie Fisher, Karen Labrosse and Eileen Malinowski; brother Roger Vaccaro; and grandchildren: Marc Jr., Marli and Mia.
Michael was born in Washington, DC to Loretta and Norbert Vaccaro on September 2, 1956. He went to High School in Prince George’s County, MD and attended Bishop McNamara, Crossland and Potomac. After high school, Michael joined the 7th Cavalry for the US Army, where he earned the Army Accommodation award for his service in post-WW II Germany, patrolling borders in intelligence. He later worked for Giant Food in Landover, MD, for 16 years. Michael married Christi Lynn Hosler in 1978 and together they raised Marc, Kimberly, and Kerri. They were married for 23 year, during which, their children were active in little league. Michael even served on the board and as president of the Waldorf Wildcats football organization.
At his passing, Michael had 8 years sobriety and had built loving relationships with his children and grandchildren, his true pride. Michael brought genuine joy and laughter to all those he met; he loved music, golf and the Washington Redskins.
He had been active in Alcoholics Anonymous and the Knights of Columbus. Michael maintained a strong faith and spoke adamantly of the power of prayer, to which he credited his sobriety and continued vitality as he endured the effects of advancing cirrhosis. Mr. Vaccaro was once quoted in a military publication saying, “I enjoy the satisfaction of doing good and helping others. I’m blessed because I’m alive. I’ve had a good life.”
He will be missed.
As he always said, “Until that time.”
