Gordon R. Johnson

Gordon was born on January 23, 1939 to the late George E. Johnson and Pearl G. Johnson. He is also predeceased by his siblings George W. Johnson, Shirley A. Best, and Gloria L. Wedding.

He is survived by his loving wife, Betty A. Johnson; his children Victoria Demarr, Daniel Johnson, and Cynthia Gilroy; step children Terry Chernek, Stephen Heckener, and Robert Heckener; 11 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren.

Gordon grew up in Oxon Hill, MD, and graduated in 1957 from Oxon Hill High School. He often shared fond memories of drag races and cherished childhood friends from Livingston Road. After graduating high school Gordon joined the Army National Guard of the District of Columbia, where he honorably served for 8 years. At an early age he discovered his passion for trade skills, starting as an apprentice electrician and later working up to a Master Electrician. Gordon worked for several companies in his career, including the College of Southern Maryland, where he met his beloved wife, Betty, with whom he shared 46 years of marriage.

Gordon owned and operated his own home improvement company for most of his career earning the loyalty of many repeat customers who became close friends. After retiring, he rekindled his love for art, a favorite subject from high school. Gordon became an accomplished artist, actively participating in the Charles County Arts Alliance. His work was frequently displayed in local galleries, libraries, banks, and county government buildings. He specialized in oil and acrylic paintings, with a particular fondness for wildlife and seascapes.

Gordon loved sharing his art with friends and family, often gifting or selling his pieces to the community.
