August 7, 1928. At the age of 89, she died on July 21, 2018. On
November 8, 1952 she married Stanley Francis Zelechoski, USN,
who preceded her in death in 2010. Seven children followed and
were raised in their Chula Vista, California home.
Dolores graduated from Immaculate Heart College (Los Angeles,
California) in 1947 with a Bachelors in Spanish and Education. She
went on to teach elementary students at various schools including
St. Charles Catholic School and Oneonta Elementary, both in
Imperial Beach, California. She did Post-graduate work in
Elementary School Education, served as President of the local
California Teachers Association in the mid-1970s, and was a
Reading Specialist for the South Bay Union School District, all the
while raising her children and supporting her husband’s military
career which included the Vietnam War and numerous other
deployments.
Her faith in God and Christ’s redemption defined her to the end.
She was a life-long member of St. Pius X Catholic parish (Chula
Vista, California) holding many roles including Director of RCIA
instruction, Altar and Rosary Society, Choir and numerous other
roles throughout the years. In 2012, following the death of her
husband, she moved to Southern Maryland and the care of her
son. She quickly became an active member of Jesus the Divine
Word Catholic parish. In her final few years she was a resident of
Asbury Solomon’s Retirement Community and nearby Our Lady
Star of the Sea Catholic parish.
She is survived by her seven children, Philip, Mary-Rose, Peter,
Patrick, Catherine, Anne-Marie and Paul, and by eleven
grandchildren and thirteen great-grandchildren. Internment is in Ft.
Rosecrans National Cemetery with her husband of 57 years.
