Troy A. Martin

Troy A. Martin, 83, of Gholson, passed away peacefully Wednesday, January 12, 2011 at his home. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Monday, January 17, 2011 at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors Chapel with Pastor Gary Kreder officiating. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park. Visitation will be 6 to 8 p.m., Sunday, January 16, 2011 at the funeral home.

Troy was born May 24, 1927 in Coryell County, Texas to Byron Lee and Ruby (Wicker) Martin. Troy married the love of his life, Gwen Hurst, on May 1, 1955 in Waco, Texas. He served in the Merchant Marines for 5 years and with the Army for 2 years. He retired from Owen-Illinois Glass Plant after 42 years of dedicated service. He was a charter member and a past Chief of Gholson Volunteer Fire Department and was a deacon and longtime member of Gholson Baptist Church (now First Baptist Church of Gholson). Troy loved spending time with his family and was an avid fisherman. He will be dearly missed.

Troy was preceded in death by his parents; his loving wife of 52 years, Gwen Martin; and brother, Travis Lee Martin.

Those left behind to cherish Troy’s memories are his sons, Jeffrey A. Martin and wife, Teresa, of Merritt Island, FL, and Russell T. Martin and wife, Teresa, of Waco; sister, Dardanilla Gummelt, of Aquilla; grandchildren, Michael Martin and wife, Ashley, of Okinawa, Japan, Christopher Martin and Joseph Martin, both of Merritt Island, FL, Felisha Tunmire and husband, Jerry, and Steven Whited and wife, Alisha, all of Waco; great grandchildren, Amelia Martin, Elijah Martin, and Isaiah Martin, all of Okinawa, Japan, Cheyenne Tunmire, Trevor Tunmire, Tawmie Glasco, and Ayden Glasco, all of Waco; and other relatives.

Pallbearers will be Richard Caldara, Danny Goates, Jerry Tunmire, Trevor Tunmire, Mitch Vaughn, and Steven Whited.

The family would like to thank the staff of Texas Home Health Hospice for the love and care given to Troy.
