Pamela Helen Steele

Pam has gone to be with Jesus, her Lord and Savior, after a long struggle with Alzheimer’s dementia. She was born to Jim and Georgia "GK" Sampson in El Reno, OK, while her father was stationed in the Pacific Ocean during World War II. Her birth was announced over the Pacific Fleet so that he would know she had been born.

She grew up in Orange, TX, the oldest of five sisters – Paula, Jan, Lynn, and Barbara. She spent one year at Stephen F. Austin University before marrying John Steele in 1964 and moving to Lake Jackson, TX.

She raised her four boys, Bill, Robert, Eric, and Kevin, in Lake Jackson, and she was known for her kindness, endless service to others, and good cooking. After having her first two children, Pam earned her nursing degree at the top of her class and served in different ways over the years at the local hospitals and then at Dr. Sabrsula’s office. She also served many years alongside other amazing people to cook Sunday dinner for the church youth group at First Methodist Church Lake Jackson. She helped with Brazoswood High School Booster Clubs throughout the fourteen years her boys were in school.

She loved being “Pamaw” to her many grandchildren, as well as nurturing so many others in her life. She is preceded in death by her parents, Jim and GK, her youngest sister, Barbara, and her granddaughter, Selina. She is survived by sons, Bill (Catherine) of Munich, Germany, Robert (Fred) of Houston, TX, Eric (Charity) of Portland, OR, and Kevin (Michelle) of Waco, TX; sisters, Paula Pennington of Orange, TX, Jan Leigh (Scott) of Victoria, TX and Lynn Smith (Creighton) of Redding, CA; and grandchildren, Anna, Alice, Ladd, Lincoln, Owen, Ryan, Hudson, Emily, Patrick, Coleman, and Avery.

Pam moved to Waco in 2009 and was diagnosed with Alzheimer’s Dementia in 2013. Not being able to live independently, she moved into Living Springs Village Memory Care in late 2015 where she was well cared for by the staff and volunteers there. Many thanks to the staff at Living Springs and Bluebonnet Hospice for helping so much with her care in the last years of her life.

Because of the COVID-19 Pandemic, there will be a virtual memorial service at a later date.
