Helen Rose Douglas Gibson, devoted homemaker and longtime member of First Baptist Church of Woodway, died Saturday, February 2, 2013, surrounded by her dear family and recently visited by beloved friends.
Funeral Services will be held 2:00 pm, February 8, 2013 at Waco Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel. Burial will follow at Waco Memorial Park.
Born June 23, 1928, in Ft. Worth, TX, Helen married William Grayson Gibson September 5, 1947, in Ft. Worth, where the couple lived for 15 years. Bill’s job took them to Midland, TX, for 12 years, where they raised their 3 children and were active members of the Crestview Baptist Church. Upon Bill’s retirement, Helen and Bill moved to Waco in 1974.
A woman of talents, skills and service, Helen loved gardening, was a gifted seamstress and needleworker, helped form special Sunday School class for senior women, was a troop leader for Girls Scouts and den mother for Cub Scouts and was an active member of McLennan County Extension Homemakers. Always generous and supportive of her friends and family, her tenderness and constant love blessed us all.
Preceded in death by her beloved husband, Bill, in 1993 and her close brother, Leonard John Douglas Jr., in 2010, Helen is survived by her children, Tom Gibson, Pamela Gibson and husband Kenneth Lake, and Bill Gibson and wife Kathleen, as well as grandchildren Nolan Evans, Tawney Gibson, Joseph Gibson and great grandchild Maryssa Orologio. Memorials for Helen may be given to First Baptist Church of Woodway and to Alzheimer’s Association.
