Elizabeth Ann Manuel, 60, of Waco, passed away on Saturday, October 8, 2011 at her home surrounded by her loving family. Funeral services will be 10:00 a.m., Saturday, October 15, 2011 at Waco Memorial Park Mausoleum Chapel. Visitation will be 11 a.m. to 7 p.m., Friday, October 14, 2011 at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors with the family receiving friends from 5 to 7 p.m.
Elizabeth was born on Tuesday, January 23, 1951 in Louisville, Kentucky to Walter Alan Jr. and Ruth Ellen (Witt) Lamb. She was the 3rd oldest of eight children. Elizabeth was raised in Louisville, until the age of 13, at which time, her parents moved the family to North Hollywood, California, finally, settling in Reseda, California.
Elizabeth’s working career started in Southern California; her first job was King’s Donut Shop, other jobs followed; e.g., Taco Bell, Thomas Organ Company, tuning organs; NMB Company, making precision metal parts; and Cavilico, a company that made parts for elevators and airplanes, where she was in charge of the stock material department. She went back to Louisville, KY., for a short time in 1973, and while there worked at the Louisville Bedding Company, where she made quilts. Elizabeth stayed home and raised their daughter from 1976 to 1981. Returning to the workforce in 1981, she worked at Wrangler Jeans; a convenient store, where she was robbed and returning the next day back at work; and a Coin and Stamp Dealer, all in or around Augusta, Georgia. While in Jacksonville, North Carolina, she worked at Cook’s Department Store. When she moved to Texas, she went to work in the retail business, starting at the local Target store, then a short period at Sears and Roebuck, then finally back to the Target store, where she retired in 2007.
Elizabeth married John Wayne Manuel on Easter Sunday, April 18, 1976 at Alberta’s Wedding Chapel in Los Angeles, California. Their honeymoon consisted of a ‘Reception’ at the local MacDonald’s restaurant and the Anheuser Busch Amusement Park, in Los Angeles, California. Elizabeth finally had her honeymoon in August 2009 touring the Mid and North Eastern United States with her husband. After they married, they made their home at 15A Elm Street (base housing), Marine Corps Base, Twenty Nine Palms, California, where their daughter Carol Jean Manuel was born. Elizabeth’s husband, John, was in the Marine Corps and the family moved around the United States, finally settling in Waco, Texas in May 1986.
Elizabeth is preceded in death by her father, Walter Alan Lamb, Jr.; two brothers, Walter Alan Lamb, III, who died in infancy, and Thomas Edward Lamb, Sr., who was murdered by his boss in 1994; and one sister, Ramona, who died in infancy.
Elizabeth is survived by her loving husband of 35 years, John Wayne Manuel; daughter, Carol Jean Manuel; grandson, Nicholas Wyatt Manuel, all of Waco; mother, Ruth Ellen Lamb; brother, Joseph Patrick Lamb, Sr., both of Boron, California; sisters, Carol Jean (Honadle) Townsend of Benbrook, Texas, Alberta Louise Mortensen of Tucson, Arizona, and Marie Ellen Hofert of Guthrie, Mississippi; and several nieces and nephews.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society.
