Bernice L. Brooks, 91, passed away peacefully Friday, March 25, 2011 at St. Catherine Center surrounded by many family members. Graveside services will be 1:00 p.m., Monday, March 28, 2011 at Oakwood Cemetery with Brother James Stevens officiating. Visitation will be 2 to 4 p.m., Sunday, March 27, 2011 at Connally/Compton Funeral Directors.
Bernice was born June 5, 1919 in Austin, Texas to Walter H. and Lillie (Sunday) Mueller. She was the oldest of seven children. Bernice married Tillman A. Brooks on April 17, 1936 in Austin. They lived in several Texas locations while her husband was working with MKT Railroad before making Waco their home in 1954. She was a faithful member of Calvary Baptist Church for the last 10 years and for many years at Grace Temple Baptist Church where she enjoyed teaching Sunday school for children’s classes and working with nursery children. Bernice dedicated her life to her family and home being very active with her children’s schools and activities. She enjoyed cooking for her family and friends and making the holidays very special.
Bernice was preceded in death by her parents; loving husband, Tillman A. Brooks in 1967; infant daughter, Linda Diane Brooks; and a brother.
Those left behind to cherish Bernice’s memory are her children, Charles Brooks and wife, Susan, Cora L. Wilkinson and husband, Kennith, Mary Ferguson, Laura Sullins, David Brooks and wife, Kathy, and Lisa Daniel; 4 grandsons; 5 granddaughters; 7 great grandchildren; 2 brothers; 3 sisters; and other relatives and friends.
Pallbearers will be her grandsons, Rodger Leach, Charlie Brooks, Ken Wilkinson, Rodney Brooks, Thomas Gilbert, and Matthew Brooks.
