Lavada Patrice Burke, 64, of Cayce, SC passed away at home on July 26, 2023, surrounded by her husband and daughters. When it comes to great women, Pat, or Patsy as her husband lovingly called her, was among the best of them. She was the most selfless mother and wife, ensuring others were cared for but never asking anyone for help.
Among her favorites, being with her family, loving on her cats, going to the beach, counting down and celebrating Christmas, and listening to George Strait were at the top of her list. One of the funniest memories was the time when Phil didn’t know she had adopted a cat until several days later. She also loved hosting family gatherings; her delicious grilled cheese could not be rivaled. Bringing her family together for every holiday was something she treasured.
She was a classy lady who always had a smile on her face, and her nails painted a shade of pink. Although at Christmas and during football season, she would change from pink to orange and purple or red. Everywhere she went, someone always complimented her on her nails. A lifelong Clemson Tigers fan, Pat would often hop on the back of her husband’s motorcycle and cruise to the Upstate to football games in support of her favorite team. We can still hear her chanting, “1, 2, 3, 4, 1, 2, 3, 4, C L E M S O N T I G E RS! Fight Tigers, Fight Tigers, Fight Fight Fight!”
During her 44 years of marriage to her high school sweetheart, Phil, Pat served as Secretary/Treasurer for Kingdom Cruisers Motorcycle Chapter in Christian Motorcyclist’s Association. She also ran her own successful accounting business.
She is survived by her husband, Phillip Burke, and daughters, Jessica Burke (Tyson Smith) and Sarah Lorick (Brian). She was Ganny to six beautiful grandchildren: Skyler Lorick, Connor Smith, Logan Lorick, Luke Smith, Cliff Smith, and Everett Lorick. She also leaves behind her three sisters- Malinda Reeder, Lorraine Smith, Angela Vance (John), and many nieces and nephews.
Pat was preceded in death by her parents, Clifford and JoAnn Hamsley.
The family wishes to extend a special thanks to the oncology department - Dr. Scott Graupner, Megan, Felicia & the hospice staff- Jerrie, Jackie, and Julie for helping Pat transition to her Heavenly home. Pat fought a brave fight until her last breath. As the great George Strait says, “The last goodbye is the hardest one to say.”
Visitation will be from 2:00 p.m. to 4:00 p.m. on Saturday, July 29, 2023, at Congaree Presbyterian Church, 1221 Lafayette Avenue, Cayce, SC 29033. Pat’s funeral service will be at 4:00 pm. A graveside service will follow at Southland Memorial Gardens located at 700 West Dunbar Road, West Columbia, SC 29170.
