James Rogers Rucker, age 82, died peacefully on June 29th, 2024. He was born on September 15, 1941 to the late James Lewie Rucker and Meredith Wolfe Rucker. James grew up in Swansea, South Carolina and graduated from Swansea High School. He met his lifelong love Judy Lane Rast and the two were married in 1961 and just celebrated 63 long years of marriage.
After graduating high school, James joined the Air Force National Guard for 14 years where he served as a Staff Sgt and then was honorably discharged. He then started working at Burroughs/Unisys for 30 years where he retired and then started working for the family business, Rucker Floor Service. James lived his life as a faithful man devoted to his family and friends. He loved to laugh and hold his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He also was a Lay Minister and loved telling others about God. He would go spread the Word to nursing homes, prisons and schools. He would spend his down time taking pictures of flowers and family and doing woodworking. He deeply loved his wife, children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.
He is survived by his wife, Judy Lane; son, James Dean Rucker(Tracey); daughter, Ginger Lane Weaver(Darwin); brothers, Charles (Jena) Rucker, Bruce (Becky) Rucker, and Robin (Kristy) Rucker; grandchildren, Ariel Lane (Scott) Williams, James Hunter (Ty) Rucker, Dargan James (Samantha Black) Weaver, Brain Laird, and Krysta (Brandon) Crooks; and great-grandchildren, Edan Lane Williams, Braylynn and Waylon Rucker, Gavin and Gracen Crooks, and Gabriel Laird.
A funeral service will be held at 1:30 PM on July 2, 2024 at Whaley Street UMC, with a visitation to take place from 11:00 AM to 1:00 PM at the church. Burial will follow the service at Southland Memorial Gardens.
Donations may be made to the Parkinson's Research Foundation or Whaley Street United Methodist Church in lieu of flowers.
