Barbara Shumpert

Barbara “Bobbie” Steele Shumpert, a beloved member of the South Congaree community, passed away peacefully on October 31, 2023, at the age of 91. She was born on July 30, 1932, in her cherished hometown of West Columbia, South Carolina.

Bobbie made a lasting impact on her community as a small business owner and dedicated beautician. Her salon, nestled in the heart of South Congaree, was a place where locals would gather not just for hairstyling but for warm conversation, support and friendship. Her dedication to her craft and her clients made her a cornerstone of the community, and her warm smile and caring demeanor will be remembered by all who knew her.

In addition to her professional accomplishments, Bobbie was a loving mother and devoted wife. She was predeceased by her husband, Renard “Seibel” Shumpert, with whom she shared a lifetime of memories, laughter and love. Their enduring partnership was a testament to the power of love and commitment.

Barbara Steele Shumpert is survived by her son, Rusty Shumpert (Melinda); daughter, Cindy Lucas; grandson, Ryan Shumpert; granddaughter, Sara Shumpert Dunn (Eric); grandson, Chantz Lucas. Bobbie’s family was her greatest joy, and she took great pride in her role as a mother, grandmother, and great-grand mother to Hannah Shumpert, Reese Shumpert, and Denver Dunn. Her legacy lives on through the family she nurtured and the love she shared.

A graveside service will be held on November 4, 2023 at 11:00 a.m. at Southland Memorial Gardens 700 West Dunbar Rd. West Columbia, SC 29170 with a visitation to follow.
