California before settling in Visalia. Kent graduated from Visalia Union High School in 1944.
During his senior year the principal told the senior boys that if they wished to enlist in the Military, he would make sure they would get their diploma. Kent embraced that idea and enlisted in the U.S. Navy to serve in WWII. He discharged from military service on May 20, 1946 and attended College Of the Sequoias.
On July 7, 1948 Kent married Delores Haldeman in Las Vegas and they established their home and family in Visalia. Kent was a carpenter for all his working years. He worked for Max Caldwell, Delta Construction, Associated Builders as self-employed general contractor, Blain Construction, Hickerson, Oates & Fite Development, and retired from Housing Authority of the County of Tulare on March 1, 1988. At one time he worked as a carpenter during the day, kept bees, raised hogs, and drove a truck for Borden to Fresno every night in the early years to make ends meet.
Along with his wife Delores, Kent was a member of the Horseless Carriage Club, as they shared a mutual enjoyment of classic cars. They took many cruises and traveled to Europe, but one of their favorite places to spend time was their vacation home in Cayucos, CA. Kent was a proud WWII veteran and was active in a local veteran’s group.
