Verla J. Charles, 88 of Visalia, died August 8, 2022. She was born April 28, 1934, in Dodge City, Kansas and attended school in Dodge City. She married James O. Charles of Jetmore, Kansas, in 1955 and they moved to Hawthorne, California in 1960, and then to Visalia in 1979. Verla worked in the banking industry in the Los Angeles area for many years, and then at Kaweah Delta Hospital in Visalia until her retirement in 1998. She enjoyed her family so very much, was an avid reader, and loved riding ‘shotgun’ on their Honda motorcycle with Jim for many years.
She was preceded in death by her husband, James O. Charles in November 2003, her father, Henry Daubert in 1967, her mother, Nola Daubert in 2005, and her sister Naomi Daubert in 1973. Surviving are her sons, Michael Dickinsun and wife Annette of Carmichael, James Charles, Jr. and wife Rhonda of Clovis; daughters, Linda O’Rourke and husband Tony of Redondo Beach, Tamara Charles of Visalia, Sandra Thiele of Colorado Springs, and special friend, Janet Bless of Merlin, Oregon; her grandchildren, Laura Day and husband Jared of Bel Air, Maryland, Adam O’Rourke and wife Leah of Redondo Beach, Breanne Wilhite and husband Adrian of Tulare, McKenna Charles and Carter Charles of Clovis, Chase Thiele and wife Brittany, Sarah Papai and husband Mike, Andrew Thiele and wife Rachel, all of Colorado Springs, and Jonathan Hovland, Lisa Bless, and Juli Bless of Merlin, Oregon. Verla was also blessed with 9 great grandchildren.
Visitation will be held at Miller Memorial Chapel, Visalia, CA on September 8, 2022 from 3-7pm. Memorial services will be held at 10am on September 9, 2022 at Miller Memorial Chapel, Visalia, CA with burial following at Visalia Public Cemetery.
