Mona Freeman passed peacefully on January 15, 2022, with her beloved dog Zipper at her side. She was born May 27, 1947, in Moline, Illinois. At an early age Mona was adopted by William and Irene Freeman, whom she loved very much. The family relocated to the San Diego, CA area, then to Seattle, WA, where Mona graduated from Evergreen High School in June 1965. The family then returned to the San Diego area, where Mona worked for the City of Chula Vista. In 1964 the family came to Visalia, where Mona initially worked for Sprague Electric.
In May 1987 Mona took a part-time position in the Vocational Education department at College of the Sequoias. In August 1988 she was elevated to a full-time position in that department. She then transferred to the Student Services division, working in the Vice President’s office and the Counseling Department, and in later years serving as Matriculation and International Student Coordinator. She worked in Counseling until her retirement in July of 2019.
Mona was an extremely caring, kind, loyal and positive individual. She was unassuming and modest, with a smile and words of encouragement for all she encountered. She was very spiritual and was the type of person who would do anything to help another person. She regularly donated to religious affiliations, local agencies that served the needy and organizations that rescued and cared for abandoned dogs. Mona loved to laugh and was a joy to be around, continually baking delicious desserts which she shared with the staff.
Mona’s dogs were the center of her life. In recent years she lost her Toy Manchester Terriers Angel and Sammie. This was devastating to her, but she soon brought Zipper, also a pure-bred Manchester Terrier, home to share her life. Zipper was full of life and energy, keeping Mona busy while providing great companionship.
Mona was preceded in death by her parents William and Irene Freeman. She and her mom enjoyed traveling, taking frequent weekend trips to the coast. Her mom’s passing left a huge void in Mona’s life. Subsequent to the loss of her mother, Mona traveled a great deal with her closest friends, including a cruise to Alaska.
Mona will be missed by many friends and colleagues. Now it is our turn for a void in our lives, although we know she is happy to be in her final resting place with her Lord. Services will be held on March 12, 2022, at the Miller Memorial Chapel (viewing 8:00 a.m. – 8:30 a.m., service at 9:00 a.m.). Burial will be at 10:30 a.m. at Visalia Public Cemetery, with a Celebration of Life to follow at the Lamp Liter Inn.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.millerchapel.com for the Freeman family.
