He died at home, surrounded in love by his wife and family, following a 16 month battle with bladder cancer.
Michael graduated from CSU Fresno with a Bachelors of Science in Surveying Engineering.
Licensed by the State of California as a Professional Land Surveyor.
Michael began his 30 year career with PG&E as a Land Technician, promoted to a Senior Land Tech, to a Chief of Party, lastly he was a Senior Surveyor.
He was an avid motorcycle rider who enjoyed riding anywhere and everywhere he could. Most weekends were spent either at a track day, tearing up the twisty California roads, on an adventure ride to another state, on some single-track dirt trail or wandering through the streets of Avila with his Wife on their moped! He said motorcycle riding was his stress reliever and made him feel free from the world. I’m sure he’s hitting those streets of gold on two wheels right now!
Michael thrived when under pressure or working toward a deadline, he was a hard worker, intelligent, well spoken, and honest and certainly a funny and sometimes quirky guy. He had no problem admitting to being a goofball but could carry on a meaningful conversation on most any subject. He enjoyed keeping fit and rarely missed a day at the gym.
Michael had friendships that were true brotherhoods…. Leithan, Jeff, Ryan and Bill shared that special bond with him.
Michael is survived by his wife Joyce; Step-daughter Misty (Nathan); Step-son Corbin (Haylee); Sisters Angela (Mike) and Debbie (Pete); and 4 nephews.
He was preceded in death by his mother Gloria.
At Michael’s request no formal memorial service will be held, instead he asked for an informal tribute spreading his ashes at his favorite riding destination and favorite beach.
If you would like to make a donation in Michael’s name please do so at St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital, he never felt pity for himself but would get a lump in his throat thinking about children going through cancer treatments.
Michael was curious about most things and loved to learn, he would say “challenge me and watch me run”. He impacted many lives and will be deeply missed.
Fond memories and expressions of sympathy may be shared at www.millerchapel.com for the VALDIVIA family.
