Evelyn Louise Shaver, age 90, loving mother of four, and friend to all, passed away peacefully in her sleep on April 17, 2024. Evelyn was born in 1934 in Decatur, Indiana to Martin and Amalia Bulmahn. She grew up surrounded by her large family which included 7 siblings and lots of aunts and uncles. Evelyn was influenced by her family to be a loving and caring woman, and as a result, always made an effort to be giving to others.
Evelyn excelled in school and graduated as the school's Valedictorian. In her Senior year she won the local school district's typing competition where she successfully typed more than 110 words per minute. She was also proud of the fact that she had read every book in the school's library.
Evelyn's interest in learning led her to take several gourmet cooking classes. Following that she developed into a great cook and, for years, provided memorable meals for her family.
Though she was a homemaker for most of her life she held a number of employment positions including an operator for Bell Telephone, a secretary for Erickson / Shaver Contracting Corporation, and most recently, as a volunteer for more than 10 years for the Red Cross.
Evelyn is survived by her four children, Tom, Susan, Scott and Nancy, and her 5 grandchildren. Evelyn was predeceased by Gary Shaver, her husband for 25 years and Gordon Pendegraft, her partner of nearly 38 years.
A graveside remembrance will be held on May 17, 2024 at 10:00 am at the Visalia Public Cemetery District located at 1300 West Goshen Avenue, Visalia, California.
