Evelyn Margaret Dawson

“For everything there is a season, a time to be born and a time to die...” Evelyn Margaret Poland Dawson, 94, of Visalia, was born February 14, 1922 and entered into eternal rest joining her beloved husband Earl on November 18, 2016 she left her family and friends with rich memories of her servant’s heart, strong faith in the Lord, devoted wife, and mother

Evelyn was born, at Sargent, NE, to George and Margaret Poland. Evelyn lived on a farm with her parents and three brothers, Kenneth, Raymond, and Glenn and one sister, Donita (all preceding her in death) and attended rural country schools and graduated from Sargent High School in 1940. While in high school Evelyn participated in music, theater, and band where she played the saxophone. Evelyn met Earl Dawson after a basketball game and the couple married on Dec. 20, 1941 and remained so for more than 73 years, until Earl’s passing on February 9, 2015. Evelyn followed Earl as much as possible while he served in the US Army Air Corp during World War II. Evelyn was living in Visalia when Earl received his discharge at Camp Beale while he was on temporary assignment at Sequoia Field on February 24, 1946. Visalia was also the place where Evelyn and Earl chose to raise their two boys Ron and Marvin.

Evelyn was an active member of the Visalia United Methodist church, Den Mother for Cub Scouts. She worked for the Visalia School District at Mineral King and Valley Oak Schools until she retired in June, l977.

Evelyn also enjoyed traveling with her husband all over the United States in their trailer visiting relatives and friends, going on bus trips with the SAMS Club, visiting Hawaii, and spending time with children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren.

Evelyn’s passing leaves an emptiness in the hearts of her family and friends but thoughts of her will remain with them forever. Although we will miss Evelyn greatly we commend her into the hands of our gracious and loving Heavenly Father until she greats us all once again in heaven knowing that her job as a devoted wife, loving mother, caring sister, aunt, grandmother, great grandmother, and friend is finished and she has taken her place in heaven.

Survivors include two sons, Ron and his wife Sandy, Marvin and his wife Abby; two grandchildren Alesha and her husband Corey, Loren and his wife Shannon; four great grandchildren, Mackenzie, Connor, Dominic and Bella; and numerous cousins, nieces, and nephews and many friends.

In lieu of flowers, the family suggests that donations may be made in her memory to the Visalia United Methodist Church 5200 W. Caldwell, Visalia, CA 93277 or your favorite charity.

Visitation will be held on Friday, November 25, 2016 from 11:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m. and Celebration of Life Service will be held on Saturday, November 26, 2016 at Miller Memorial Chapel, 1120 W. Goshen Ave., Visalia, CA 93291.
