Carol S. Whiteside, born on October 10, 1927, and died on October 18, 2021, left a legacy of kindness and selflessness to all those who knew her. Carol's generosity and compassion for family, new and old friends was a trait that embodied her Christian values and love of Jesus. Her early childhood and upbringing began in Los Angeles where she attended Van Ness Avenue Grammar School meeting three friends who remained close and got together yearly for 80 years.
She attended John Burroughs Middle School and Los Angeles High School where she became active in Girl Scouts, attending Camp Osito in Big Bear as a counselor in her senior year in high school. She moved to Tulare with her parents, Dick and Martina M. Gustave, and attended COS. It was there she met Richard Whiteside. They both attended USC and were married in 1948, a union that lasted 59 years. Richard passed away on Easter Day in 2008.
Carol had many proud moments in her life and receiving her daughter, Leigh-Ann, in 1958 and her son, Erik, in 1960, was one of her happiest memories. Her proudest career accomplishments were working as a nurse at Kaweah Delta Hospital and achieving her Bachelors in Nursing Science from California State Bakersfield while working full time. She retired as an OB RN after 23 years. Carol was involved in many civic activities volunteering with Family Serves as a Rape Crisis Volunteer, and volunteering at the Samaritan Clinic as an R.N. Her church life at St. Paul's Anglican Church was filled with many activities and involvements serving as Guild Leader and working as a member of the "Kitchen Crew" for Wednesday night dinners.
Carol's passing was a joyful sorrow, and she will be missed by her many grandchildren and great grandchildren. Many thanks to Kaweah Delta Hospice, and the staff at EAL Quail Park. They were so kind and compassionate to allow her final moments to be filled with love and caring moments. In lieu of flowers Carol requested donations be made to St. Paul's Anglican Church's building fund.
Services will be held in the Chapel at St. Paul's School, 6101 West Goshen Avenue, Visalia, California on Saturday, October 23 at 2:00 PM.
