Shirley Whitehurst Brown

Shirley Whitehurst Brown, 92, passed away peacefully on Friday, August 26, 2022 surrounded by her family. She was a resident of Palymyra, VA from 1979 where she volunteered with Meals on Wheels and served briefly as Director of the Ruritan Club. Previous to that, she and her husband resided in Virginia Beach, where they ran a painting/contracting company, and were active members of Scott Memorial Methodist Church. She enjoyed decorating cakes and socializing with family and friends. She is preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Henry Elliot Brown, Jr, and her grandson, Bryan Ray Teets. She is survived by her son Walter (Skip) Brown and her daughters Karen McGuire and Debbie Teets and son-in-Law Terry Teets; three grandchildren and thirteen great grandchildren and many treasured extended family members. A graveside service will be held at Rosewood Memorial Park Cemetery on Wednesday, August 31, at 10 am. The park is located at 631 N. Witchduck Road in Virginia Beach. In lieu flowers, donations can be made to Hospice of the Piedmont-Hospice Charlottesville, who helped in her care in her final months. Donations can be made at hopva.org
