Robert "Bob" E. Shields

Virginia Beach - Robert “Bob” Earl Shields, 85, passed away at Hampton VA Medical Center on Nov. 5, 2012 from COPD. Bob was born in Hugo, IL and lived in the Tidewater area since 1959. He is preceded in death by his wife of 33 years Marjorie Shields; father, Ed Shields; mother, Edith Haffey; and sister, Patricia Anne Shields. Surviving him are his daughter, Patti Bruton and husband Richard; son, Scott Shields and wife Darlene; grandchildren, Tanya Kalua, Rob Shields and wife Kaylin, Roman, Rocky, Raven, Rylee, and R’iell Shields; great-grandson, CJ Stephens; and girlfriend, Eva Parker. Bob was a man who enjoyed banana pudding, thrift stores, flea markets, Dover Downs Casino, antique cars, bowling, horseshoes, big band music and western movies. He was proud of his military service in the Navy. He served in both the Korean Conflict and World War II. He was a Gunner’s Mate that served on the USS LST-970, USS Purdy-734 and USS J. Douglas Blackwood DE-219. Dad was a hardworking businessman, often working two jobs. Some businesses he owned/co-owned were: Holland Road American Oil Gas Station, Aragona Sinclair, Haygood Pure Oil, Chinese Corner Texaco, Davis Corner Texaco, Laskin Road Gulf, Aragona Phillips 66, West Ghent Auto, Aldridge and Chambers. We will miss him most for his stubbornness, his mighty grip and his gentlemanlike ways. A graveside service will be held at 1:00 p.m. on Thursday, Nov. 8, 2012 at Rosewood Memorial Park with his son, Rev. Scott Shields and grandson, Robert Earl Shields II officiating.
