The Lord called His servant Nancy May Smith (89) home to her eternal rest on Sunday, April 16, 2023.
Nancy was born in Honolulu, Hawaii on November 13, 1933. She graduated from Roosevelt High School in Honolulu in 1951.
Nancy spread joy to everyone she met and was a positive influence to many children and young people. She taught school at Trinity Lutheran, Christ Lutheran, was a Youth Leader at Christ Lutheran Church and Girl Scout Leader here in Norfolk. She was also active in Lydia Circle at First Lutheran Church for many years.
Nancy is preceded in death by her parents Joseph K. Wood, Geraldine M. Wood, her brother Frank H. Wood and her son, David C. Smith.
Nancy is survived by the love of her life of 70 years, Melvin C. (Jack) Smith, three children Donald J. Smith, Carol M. Houtler (Wayne), Jo Ann Hughes, two granddaughters, Leigh E. Liebert and Brooke A. Gates, six great grandchildren, sister-in-law Patricia Wood and a host of nieces and nephews.
A visitation will be held at Smith and Williams Funeral Home located at 4889 Princess Anne Road in Virginia Beach on Wednesday, April 19, 2023 from 5:00 p.m. until 7:00 p.m.
Funeral Services will be held at First Lutheran Church located at 1301 Colley Avenue, Norfolk, Virginia on Thursday, April 20, 2023 at 2:00 p.m.
Internment will take place at St. John's Lutheran Church in Conover, North Carolina on Tuesday, April 25, 2023 at 1:00 p.m.
In lieu of flowers contributions can be made to First Lutheran Church Memorial Fund.
