Marie Oakley Young

Virginia Beach - Nola Marie Oakley Young, formerly of Taylor Drive, passed away Nov. 23, 2014. She was born on Sept. 21, 1924 in Person County, NC to the late Lester G. Oakley and Maggie Nola Perkins. In addition to her parents, she was predeceased by her husbands, Andrew Blakely Massey and Raymond Lawrence Young. Left to cherish her memory are her youngest sister, Wilma Dickey of Hillsborough, NC; her three children, Ronald Blakely Massey, Danny Andrew Massey, and Michelle Raye Crutchlow and her husband Steve; step-daughter, Brenda Joyce Hylton and her husband Harrison; as well as seven grandchildren; ten great-grandchildren; and one great-great grandchild.

Marie was a member of Virginia Heights Baptist Church, Norfolk. She enjoyed many activities such as softball, bowling, square dancing and taking long walks through the neighborhood where she was acquainted with many of her neighbors. During her life, Marie earned her beauticians license and enjoyed doing hair in her home. She also volunteered in the Fairlawn Elementary cafeteria. Marie cared for many children over the years and loved each and every one of them.

Special heartfelt thanks to all the neighbors of Maple Hall who were so kind and kept a watchful eye and guided Marie home. We also want to thank the nurses and staff of Pacifica Senior Living, Windermere Nursing Home, and Heartland Hospice for their care.

The family will receive friends from 6:00 – 8:00 p.m., Friday Nov. 28, 2014 at Rosewood Kellum Funeral Home. A service will be held at 2:00 p.m., Sat. Nov. 29, 2014 at the funeral home with burial to follow in Rosewood Memorial Park. Memorial donations may be made to the Lewy Body Dementia Association at LBDA.org.
