Virginia Beach - Mabel Catherine Tatem, recently of Appomattox, VA, went home to be with her Lord on November 17, 2017 at the age of 95. She was born on Nov. 20, 1921 to the late Henry Gilbert and India (Butt) Gilbert. She is also predeceased by her husband of 59 years, John Lewis Tatem; her daughter, Darian Lee (Tatem) Smith; and her two brothers, Benny and John Gilbert.
She is survived by her daughter, Joan (Tatem) Lehman and husband Paul; her son-in-law, Charles E. Smith; her two sisters, Ollie Caroll and Jean Davis; her six grandchildren, Terri (Lehman)Tynan, Patricia (Lehman) Owen and husband Jonathan, Paul Lehman II, John Lehman and wife Mimi, Charlene (Smith) Steverson and husband Jerry, Charles L. Smith and wife Lisa; and her nine great-grandchildren, Brian Tynan, James, David and Noah Lehman, Garrett, Lauren and Benjamin Owen, Jacob and Aubree Smith.
She was a people person who loved giving to others and spending time with her family. She enjoyed yodeling and always brought a smile to others when she did. One of her favorite hymns was “Amazing Grace”. She lived a long life and loved her Lord Jesus.
