John B. Stone III, 83, died July 22, 2013 of heart failure and its complications. He was born in Montgomery, AL to the late John B. Stone, Jr. and Louise Powell Stone. His sister, Beverly Stone Bearden, and her husband, Paul L. Bearden, also predeceased him. His college education was interrupted by his service in the U.S. Army during the Korean War. John returned to Alabama to become a proud graduate of Auburn University with a BS in Building Construction. He retired from Tidewater Construction Corp. after 33 years. John loved watching SEC football and traveling the world.
John is survived by his wife of 53 years, Selma, his daughter Stephanie Stone and her husband Mitchell Homma of Encinitas, CA and his three sons, J. Bowen Stone IV, his wife, Shelley Adaire Stone, and his daughters, Adaire and Abigail of Wilmington, DE, Francis R. Stone and his children, Savannah and Stirling and their mother, Paula Stone, of Virginia Beach, VA, and Raymond L. Stone of Virginia Beach, VA, his fiancée Amber Rolls and her daughter Sydney of Chesapeake, VA. His aunt, Ruth Cook Powell of Montgomery, AL, the matriarch of the family also survives him.
In addition, his brother-in-law Charles Schoenbrodt and his wife Deanne Collins of Spring Hill, his nephew Blake Schoenbrodt and niece Christa Schoenbrodt, of Nashville, and his niece, Hope Schoenbrodt, of Phoenix, AZ, survive him.
The family wishes to express special thanks and appreciation to his caregiver, Tawanna Riddick, as well as the staffs of Our Lady of Perpetual Help and Medi Hospice.
There will be a memorial service at St. Peter’s Episcopal Church, 224 South Military Hwy, Norfolk, VA 23502 on August 22, 2013 at 2:00PM. Interment will be private. In lieu of flowers, please send contributions to St. Peter’s Episcopal Church.
