John E. Hockey Jr, born January 23, 1957, passed away on February 27, 2024. John was born to the late John E. Hockey Sr and Edna Hockey in Ogdensburg, New York. He graduated from Morristown Central School in 1976. He joined the Navy not knowing how to swim in 1980. He served 20 years in the United States Navy as a cook. He loved being in the kitchen and when not in the kitchen in his recliner watching the Dallas Cowboys, Nascar, and John Force and NHRA racing.
He is survived by his wife, Debra, son Mark, daughter Heather, and granddaughter Pammy. He was a loving brother to Shelia, Sandy, Sally, Bill, Harlow and Kevin. He also leaves behind many sister in laws, brother in laws, nieces, nephews, cousins, and friends.
The family will receive guests on Wednesday March 6, 2024 from 5:00pm - 7:00pm at Rosewood-Kellam Funeral Home on Witchduck Road in Virginia Beach. A Celebration of Life will be held on March 7, 2024 at 11:00am at Haygood United Methodist Church in Virginia Beach. A live-stream of the service will be available. A reception will follow in the church social hall. Internment will follow at a later date at the Albert G. Horton, Jr. Memorial Veterans Cemetery in Suffolk, Virginia.
In lieu of flowers, the family request donations to be made to the Navy-Marine Corps Relief Society https://support.nmcrs.org/a/homepage which provides several programs and services to assist active duty and retired Sailors, Marines, and their families in financial need.
