A Norfolk native, Mr. McClendon was preceded in death by his parents Robert and Mildred McClendon and his wife Frances J. McClendon and a son Charles W. McClendon and his siblings Mildred McSkimming, Bill McClendon and Dennis McClendon.
Jimmy retired after over fifty years of service from Door Engineering Inc. He served as a volunteer fireman with the City of Chesapeake in the 1960's and 1970's and coached little league baseball for many years.
He was a member of the Church of the Nazarene for over fifty years.
Survivors include his daughter Deborah Barefoot and her husband Mike, a son Bob McClendon and his wife Jen; six grandchildren, Ashley Donovan and her husband Ryan, Robbie McClendon and his wife Brittany, Zach Barefoot and his wife Kari, Josh Barefoot and his wife Margaret, Mandy Boris and her husband Paulie and Jamey McClendon and his wife Traci; nine great grandchildren Aiden and Emma McClendon, Gracie and John Donovan, Baker and Carter Barefoot, Hailey and Luke Barefoot, and Raylin McClendon, sister-in-law Chris Jackson; along with many nieces and nephews.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, April 20, at 2:00 pm at Rosewood-Kellum Funeral Home. Interment will follow at Rosewood Memorial Park. The family will receive friends one hour prior to the service.
