Charles Wayne Johnson, 87, passed away peacefully on May 14, 2021. He was born on June 25, 1933 to the late Randal Johnson and Oma Jackson Mack in Kinston, Alabama. He is preceded in death by his son, Richard Johnson.
Mr. Johnson served in the U.S. Army, retiring after 20 years of service. After his military career, he worked for the Virginia Beach Police Department as a Forensic ID Technician, retiring again after 20 years. He had a passion for fishing, hunting, boating, and working in his garden. He was an avid golfer and excelled in softball and baseball. He was easy to pick out in a crowd with his beautiful blue eyes, contagious big smile, and of course his famous outgoing, sometimes showboating personality. He enjoyed making everyone around him laugh. He always took pride in his strong work ethic and his zest for life. He shared 66 years with his beautiful wife, Lilo and everyone was better having known him.
Charles is survived by his loving wife, Liselotte E. Johnson; daughter, Diana Penix and her husband Larry, and their daughters, Nadine Gilkes and Natalie Jones and her husband, Deric Jones; son, Roger Johnson and his daughter, Gabrielle and his late son Richard's two children, Charity Johnson and Marc Johnson. He is also survived by his six amazing great-grandchildren, Brianna, Kevin, Jr., and Riley Gilkes, Shelby and Chase Jones and Avery Johnson.
A native of Andalusia, Alabama he was proud to graduate from Andalusia High School at the age of 81. He always took pride in serving his country and his community and never forgot he was a native of Alabama, a son of Andalusia, and a Bulldog of Andalusia High School. He will be missed beyond words and forever remembered for the beautiful person he was.
