Virginia Beach - Brendan Patrick Ridge died February 8, 2016, after a long struggle with multiple sclerosis. Born in 1944 in Boston, Massachusetts, he was the son of James Martin Ridge and his wife Eileen Maude, both of Ireland. Brendan graduated from Boston College with a bachelor's degree in political science. He began his working career as a social studies teacher, then joined the U.S. Navy, which brought him to Virginia Beach. After being stationed in Pensacola, Florida, the family returned to Virginia Beach, where Brendan became a real estate broker and president of Century 21-Ridge Realty.
For 47 years he was a loving and devoted husband to Dorothy L. (Dottie) Ridge. In addition to his beloved wife, Brendan leaves behind his daughter, Arlene Ridge, and son, Mark Ridge, both of Virginia Beach; brothers Jim (in San Diego) and Kevin (in Boston); and nieces and nephews and other relations in the U.S. and Ireland. He was predeceased by his sister Catherine and his brother Francis.
There will be a visitation 5-7 p.m. Saturday Feb. 13 at Smith & Williams Funeral Home, 4889 Princess Anne Rd in Virginia Beach. A funeral Mass will be held 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 15, at the Church of the Holy Family at 1279 N. Great Neck Rd. in Virginia Beach.
In lieu of flowers, donations are suggested for the Princess Anne Courthouse Volunteer Rescue Squad.
