Betty Hook Rudy, 91, passed away on February 20, 2021. She was born on January 26, 1930 in Charleston, West Virginia to the late Charlie and Ellen Hook. Betty was a proud graduate of Mount de Chantal Visitation Academy in Wheeling, WV.
Betty dutifully served her country in the U.S. Navy as a member of the WAVES for 2 years. Betty began her career in banking at Southern Bank of Norfolk (later First Virginia Bank). She spent over 30 years at First Virginia Bank where she became the first female bank officer. During her banking career, Betty never forgot a face or a name and earned the business, and more importantly, the respect of innumerable customers. Betty retired as a bank Vice President in 1992. Betty was a long-time active member of St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church where she served for over 20 years each Sunday counting the collection. She was a member of numerous clubs to include the Red Hat Society, Saint Gregory Knitting Group and the local Chapter of the Notre Dame Club. Betty Rudy also made the best pound cake the world has ever known.
No matter the time in her life, her greatest accomplishment was being a devoted wife, loving mother and amazing grandmother and great-grandmother. Left to cherish her memory is her loving husband of 67 years, Donald H. Rudy; son, Donald C Rudy (Cindy); daughter, Cynthia Rudy (David Hutchins); 3 grandchildren, Christopher Rudy Tan (Beth), Kian Lee Tan (Sarah), and Jacob Czar Rudy (Tiffany); and 7 great grandchildren, Bridget, Thomas, Jack, Andrew, Jada, Harper, and Jameson.
A Mass of Christian Burial will be held at 10:00 AM on March 4, 2021 at St. Gregory the Great Catholic Church. A private burial will follow. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Catholic Charities of Eastern Virginia. You may offer condolences at www.mem.com
